Festooned with flowers

The spring flower display in Kommetjie has, for as long as I can remember, been a spectacle to behold, almost rivalling the West Coast except for variety. Carpets of white daisies appear out of nowhere in every sandy patch (of which there are many) and soon there are cars parked on every verge as tourists passing through this little village take selfies of themselves lying in fields of daisies, and occasionally locals such as myself! The white daisies are soon replaced by masses of yellow, and then the purple flowers take over. Interspersed among all these are the magnificent bright pink of the vygies. The island that forms the focal point of Kommetjie is always worth walking round, even when the flowers are gone, simply to view the area from a different perspective or, if you are a keen birder, spend time enjoying the wide variety of birdlife to be found here.
