Back to the hills

The heat of January is upon us without warning! The weatherman forecast 21 degrees in Kommetjie - a nice temperature for a relaxing day in the garden. Well, did he get it wrong! At least 28 in the house and +35 in the shade outside. The poor garden just shrivelled and wilted before my eyes. Now the southeaster is starting to blow again which brings slight relief but bashes the plants. January and February are my least favourite months, particularly now that we are not allowed to use a garden hose to point skywards and stand under the cooling 'rain' like we used to!
The hikers have got cabin fever and we are going to resume our hikes tomorrow after a short break (which fortuitously gave my ankle a rest). The temperature is supposed to be cooler tomorrow and we are hiking next to a river (if there is still water in it) with a few trees for shade. No strenuous uphills and scrambling as we ease ourselves back into exercise. Afternoon naps on the couch for the last few weeks have done nothing for muscle tone or fitness, but no doubt that will all return in the blink of an eye.
It will be good to be out and about again in the mountains and getting on with a new year of moving forward with life. I thrive on having a purpose each day, and find a full calendar makes me much more efficient in dealing with mundane matters. Hopefully I will have some exciting things to blog about, rather than whining about the weather ad nauseam.
