A quick stop in the Karoo

A long day on the road saw us pulling into our overnight accommodation at Kambro Accommodation and Farmstall (20km outside Britstown) in the dark, but such was the efficiency of our guide from Karoo Birding Safaris, that within moments of arrival we were all installed in our various cottages and informed that we would be fetched for supper as soon as it was ready. How marvellous to have dinner served from seemingly nowhere! Birding (or maybe climbing in and out of a 4x4 multiple times a day) sure whetted the appetite! A convivial curry was produced, and then it was time for the routine evening activity of 'ticking off the bird list'. Without this, I am sure we would have forgotten every sighting before the next day.
The cottage we stayed in. Sleeps 6, very comfortable, full self-catering facilities, electric blankets! Huge effort made for what is likely just an overnight stop for most travellers. Highly recommended

The farmstall at Kambro. Lamb and springbok pies were an early and delectable breakfast. A good selection of everything from tourist t-shirts to mampoer and witblits lined the shelves. I delved into the deep freeze and brought home a few select cuts of Karoo lamb, which proved to be the best I have ever eaten and it could well be worth a trip back!

Sunrise. The gates lead almost directly onto the main truck route, yet very little disturbance was discernible during the night, only from about 4am.

The road to SKA. An official car sped by, obviously late for a meeting.
We stopped at a lay-by for lunch. Ralie was snapped snapping her tour group! Note the casual stance. Not much danger of traffic.
Another good day's birding found us in mountainous country, at Sakrivierspoort, where we would spend two nights.
