Anniversary and birthday - a quiet day at home

Been married 34 years today and He Who Can Fix Anything turned 61. The reason for the anniversary and birthday being on the same date was because, in those distant days, I had the idea that it was a means of ensuring that our anniversary was never forgotten. It didn't work. Not one anniversary has been recognised nor celebrated - proof that commercialism and sentimentality hold no water in the greater scheme of things. As birthdays are also regarded as just another day, we didn't recognise that either. But we did go to the dump with the garden refuse and then took a turn round the local hardware store by way of a small celebration.

It's been a quiet day, not only because of the lack of partying, but because we have had a day of soft drizzle, the kind winters used to be made of, and the low clouds somehow make one feel like doing things that you don't get done on a sunny day when you want to be out and about. I spent the whole day working on my next book relating to our trip to Spain last year and achieved more in a few hours than I have in the last two months, while HWCFA pottered in the garage, happy as a sandboy. Lunch was peppered steak, which was quick and easy, and supper is peanut butter toast, so that I don't have to spend time in the kitchen.

I suppose that could be considered a celebration and acknowledgement of my years of devoted service!

We took an evening walk with the dogs, having been rained on early this morning, and here are some pictures of a different time of day in Kommetjie.
